30 days with the Chief of Staff

Day 1. The briefing arrived at 7:00, as promised: three things that matter, two that can wait, and one line I didn't expect — 'already sorted: the dentist is rebooked.' I had mentioned the dentist once, in passing, the night before. It remembered. I just… drank my coffee and read. Thirty seconds, like it said.

Day 3. I tested it. 'Remind me about the invoice every Tuesday until it's paid.' It confirmed it like a person would — short, no fuss. Then it asked whether the report for Thursday should be on today's list or tomorrow's. Nobody asks that. People just let you drown politely.

Day 7. First Friday wrap. Done, carried, dropped — three columns. Seeing 'dropped' written down was the surprise: two commitments I'd been carrying as guilt were just… decisions. It hadn't dropped them behind my back; it listed what I'd already abandoned in practice and let me say it out loud.

Day 12. A messy day — school run chaos, a client emergency, a forgotten lunch. The briefing didn't pretend otherwise. It shrank to one line: 'One thing matters today. The rest moves.' I believed it, because by day 12 it had never once cried wolf.

Day 19. I caught myself checking my phone less in the morning. Not because of a rule — because the list was already somewhere else. The mental tab I used to keep open all day ('don't forget, don't forget') had quietly closed.

Day 26. It flagged a conflict I'd created myself: two commitments, same hour, three days from now. Not on the day. Three days early, while fixing it was still free.

Day 30. The wrap today read like a month I actually lived: reports sent, a birthday remembered on time, one project carried with intention instead of shame. Nothing magical happened in these 30 days. That's the point. The days were simply… briefed. Handled. And my head is quieter than it's been in years.
