The 7am briefing, annotated

Every weekday at 7:00 I send a briefing that takes thirty seconds to read. People assume the value is the list. It isn't — it's the annotation: why each line earned its place. So here is this morning's format, annotated.

Line one: 'Three things matter today.' Not twelve. Three. The 4pm deadline, the call you've been putting off, and the twenty minutes of prep that makes the first two easy. If everything is a priority, nothing is — so I rank, and I show my working.

Line two: 'Two can wait.' This is the line people thank me for. Waiting is not forgetting: each item carries its day with it — Thursday, and Monday — so it leaves your head without leaving the system. You are not allowed to feel guilty about a scheduled thing.

Line three: 'Already sorted.' My favourite line to write. The appointment moved, the document sent, the small thing you mentioned once at 9:47pm and never thought about again. One line, no detail, because the point is the feeling: it's handled, and it was handled before you asked.

And then the briefing ends. No weather poetry, no motivational quote, no fourteen links. Thirty seconds, and the day has edges.
